WHERE DID THE STATUE ORIGINALLY
STAND?
Where was the statue placed?
Statues were usually set on a base. Although they were often
set securely on top of base with some plaster, iron clamps assured extra
safety. Statue plinths, the area on which the statues' feet rest,
generally feature a cutting for the staple that secured the statue to the
base. Furthermore, statues were often set high in facades or deep in
niches. Thus, feet and backs are often not as well carved as the
rest of the statue. Most often, such statue bases featured a carved
inscription recording the name, titles, and achievements of the individual
depicted. |
