What does the footwear look like?
Real upper class Romans wore closed leather shoes. Senatorial
men wore such shoes, but theirs had criss-crossing straps, while the men
and women of the equestrian class usually wore leather shoes without
straps. Sandals belonged to the Greeks. Among sandals, a
modern day thong flip-flop was female; sandals without the thong between
the big toe were male. |
