WAS THE SCULPTURE PAINTED?
How much of this statue was originally
painted? It is a fact that Roman marble statuary was painted - hair,
attributes, and eyes were colored. The question remains, did the Romans
paint skin surfaces as well? When the skin of a sculpture demonstrates a
super high polish with no traces of tool marks, the flesh areas were probably
not painted.
