We don’t know where the equestrian
statue of Marcus Aurelius stood in antiquity. It would not have been unusual to
have this kind an over-lifesize equestiran statue of a Roman Emperor in
the Forum, the downtown of the ancient city.
Others have suggested that the
Marcus Aurelius might have stood in
the Campus Martius, somewhere near the Column of Marcus Aurelius, a
monument meant to honor the emperor’s military victories in northern
Europe. |
