Dr. Laura Flusche, President
A twelve year resident of Rome, Dr. Flusche teaches Art History for the
University of Dallas and for the DePaul/Catholic University programs in Rome.
She received her B.A. in Art History from Trinity University in San Antonio. Her M.A. is in Italian Renaissance Art and her Ph.D. is in Etruscan and Roman
Art, Architecture and Archaeology from the University of Illinois at
Champaign-Urbana.
In addition, Dr. Flusche has worked since 1991 on an excavation on the Palatine
Hill in Rome
’s ancient city center. She is currently writing a book titled
Etruscomania: Etruscology and Ideology 1850-2000, that examines modern fascination with ancient Etruscan culture.
Susan Sanders, Executive Director
Professor Sanders received her M.Arch in Architecture from Georgia Tech and her
B.A. in Art from the University of Georgia. In the US she
taught architectural design for the Universities of Arkansas and Kansas, the
Savannah College of Art
& Design in addition to being the Hyde Chair of Excellence for the University of
Nebraska. In Rome she teaches for the University of Washington(Seattle) and
Michigan State University Rome programs. Prior to coming to Rome, she was the
Creative Director for Carrier Johnson Architects in San Diego.
Her current research is focussed on the importance of ancient Rome in modern
culture with an emphasis on the intersections between past and present in both
the US and Rome. In November 2004 she created a film festival, titled,
“Ancient Rome in Modern American Film: From Cleopatra to Gladiator”. She is currently at work on a lecture series that explores the images of ancient
Rome present in modern American culture.
